Here are some basic instruction that may help you with your Firewall settings. Only use this if you are having problems running EuCon and feel it is necessary to keep your Firewall On. It is recommended that you disable the internal Mac Firewall in order ensure a more stable EuCon network connection. However these steps will allow EuCon to run with the Firewall turned on.

Auto-bank to Selected Track is disabled in Pro Tools by default. There is a custom plist entry that can re-enable this feature on your system.
- Open com.euphonix.eucon.plist (
/library/preferences/...) using a plist editor - Add a new item.
- Name it "EuControl/ProToolsAutoBanksToSelectedTrack"
- Give it a string value, 1=on 0=off
- Save the file and reboot.
Note: make sure to close EuControl before editing the plist file.
Cubase 5.5 makes use of a brand new EuCon adapter from Steinberg, however it is installed as part of the EuControl installer (v2.5.5).
It is important to note that our installer intelligently looks for the currently installed version of Cubase and then installs the correct version of the EuCon adapter at that time.
This means you must install (or re-install) EuControl v2.5.5 AFTER you upgrade to Cubase 5.5. If you install EuControl v2.5.5 prior to installing Cubase 5.5 then the installer will place the previous adapter in the Cubase directory and it will not work when you upgrade to Cubase 5.5.

It is recommended that you do not set your EuCon workstation(s) to Sleep.
- EuCon will not function well after sleep. Sleep loses the network connection on the workstation, and EuCon goes into a bad state because it needs an active network to be available. Our EuCon database process that runs in the background will no longer receive messages from the existing EuCon nodes (application and/or workstations on the network) and will therefore remove the nodes. They will have to be relaunched after this to become available again.
Additionally, imagine that you have a second workstation running EuCon. If it goes to sleep, the primary workstation running EUControl has no way of knowing this, and it will appear as though it is turned off.
We recommend setting your Mac to not go to sleep and never put hard drives to sleep.
If you must use sleep, then you will need to manually relaunch all EuCon processes again when your Mac "wakes up"
To do this, go to System Preferences/Euphonix and press Stop (do this before setting your workstation to Sleep mode). This will quit all EuCon processes. Press the Start button to launch all EuCon processes again.

To configure the Surround Panner for Pro Tools v8.x and earlier:
1. Open Pro Tools Peripherals->MIDI Controllers.
2. Assuming you have four HUIs configured, re-assign controller #4 to SurroundPnr in the Type field.
"http://www.euphonix.com/artist/support/solutions_img/00000222_PT_SurPan.jpg" border="0" />
3. Set Receive From and Send To to the appropriate EuCon port, as defined in EuPrefs Pane.
If you have a previous HUI assignment, first select None, then re-assign to a EuMIDI port.
4. Close the Pro Tools Peripherals Setup WIndow.
5. From the top page of the Touch-screen SoftKeys, press the "Panner" button (center row, right side). This will take you to the Surround Panner controls page - you will see the controls for the Surround Panner assigned in the Pro Tools Appset (pre-assigned in the default application set).
6. You must use the Surround Panner’s Previous/Next and Up/Down functions, which are assigned to Soft Keys, to move the Surround Panner from Track to Track and from Channel Pan to Aux Pan, respectively. The surround panner will not follow channel selection.
7. When you have selected the Track / Aux you want to control, switch to the Surround tab to use the panner.
8. The Surround Panner LFE is mapped to the "Assignable Knob" wheel function in Pro Tools. To control the LFE level you will need to put the wheel into this mode. See documentation for detailed steps for programming the "assignable knob" mode on the MC Control.
The following setup is recommended if you are connected directly to your Mac - a single Ethernet cable from the Artist unit to the Mac's Ethernet port, and in some cases where a Switch is used between the Mac and the Artist control surfaces.
Set up manual network location:
1) Go to Network settings. Launch System Preferences (Apple Menu > System Preferences...) and press the Network icon.
2) Unlock the pane to enable changes (lower left corner of panel - it will ask for your password)
- if you wish for this to be the permanent default location, then skip to step 7
3) Under the Location drop down menu, choose "Edit Locations..."
4) Choose "Automatic"
5) Click the button with a gear icon and choose "Duplicate Location". Name it "Artist Direct Connect" and click Done.
6) Under the Location drop down menu, choose "Artist Direct Connect"
7) Choose "Ethernet" in the list on the left. (If there are multiple Ethernet ports, use Ethernet port #1. This is the default port used for EuCon. The default port setting can be changed in System Preferences > Euphonix)

EuCon will only use a single Ethernet port on your Mac. This is set to Ethernet Port 1 by default.
You can change the default port by going to System Preferences > Euphonix and selecting the port you wish to use in the Network Interface drop-down menu. You will need to Log out and back in for this to take affect.

If you have multiple surfaces you will need to use a router or a switch between the workstation and the surfaces.
Depending on your network setup, we generally recommend using a router. In some cases a switch is better, however a router can usually be configured to work like a switch.
The Control Room knob on the MC Control can be locked to any EuCon enabled application that models the Control Room knob. This includes Maestro, Studio Monitor Express, Cubase and Nuendo.
To lock the Control Room knob on the MC Control to an application, take the following steps:
1. Make sure that the desired application is running, and is in the foreground (focused).
2. Check that the Control Room knob is working from the surface.
3. Go directly to EuControl settings. It is important that you do not focus any other application.
4. In Eucontrol, go to the 'Assign' tab.
5. At the bottom, check the "Monitor and Control Room" option
6. The Control Room knob should now be locked to the application.
Please note that this is 'stored' in EuControl. Next time you launch your system, you will need to temporarily focus the application again in order for the locking to take affect again. You do not, however, need to set this option next time.

Pro Tools v8.x and earlier use HUI over EuCon. Pro Tools v9 includes a true EuCon adapter.
1. Open System Preferences and go to Euphonix Preferences.
2. Drag and drop the application (example: Pro Tools) you wish to use into the center panel. Pro Tools will default to HUI, ports 1-4.
- if you have additional applications added here, each will be assigned its own set of 4 MIDI ports.
3. Close System Preferences and restart your workstation.
4. Now go to Pro Tools > Setup > Peripherals > MIDI Controllers and assign as many HUI banks as you need (max 4). Specify the Euphonix MIDI ports as designated in the Euphonix Preferences for both send and receive.
If the above configuration still does not work, there may be something wrong. Generally one of the following will resolve any HUI connection issues:
1. Go to: Macintosh HD/library/audio/MIDI drivers and delete the Digidesign MIDI drivers (esp MBox 2 drivers) then restart your workstation. It is possible that other 3rd party MIDI drivers are causing this conflict. Some trial and error may be needed if removing the mentioned drivers does not solve the problem.
2. Check your Firewall. It should be off:
- It is recommended that you disable the internal Mac Firewall in order ensure a more stable EuCon network connection.
- OS 10.5 / 10.6: System Preferences / Security / Firewall Tab - Set to allow all incoming… (stop)
3. If none of the above work you may need to repair disk permissions.
- This can done using Disk Utilities ~/Applications/Utilities/...
- Before repairing disk permissions, quit Pro Tools.
- Go to System Preferences > Euphonix and remove Pro Tools by selecting it in the center drag-and-drop area and pressing delete.
- To apply the changes, press 'Stop' to quit all the EuCon processes running on your system.
- Now repair disk permissions. Reboot when you are done.
- After repairing permissions, you will need to follow the steps to make HUI run again.
Yes. The TFT touch panels are calibrated carefully at the factory before shipping. However, should you need to re-calibrate your screen, please follow the steps below:

When using HUI mode it is important to remember the relationship between the Surface, the
HUI layer and Pro Tools.
It is possible to map HUI Strips to the surface in the same fashion as EuCon applications. The difference, however, is that only the HUI Strips are mapped, and not the actual Pro Tools channels. This means that once HUI Strips are mapped, the HUI layer can “move” underneath (by Banking or Nudging), and the Pro Tools tracks as they appear on the surface will change accordingly.

For example: lets say you open your Pro Tools session and have 2 HUI modules assigned. By default, channels 1-16 are assigned to HUI Strips 1-16 and then onto Surface Strips 1-16 respectively. You proceed to Direct Assign HUI Strips 5-8 onto the 4 MC Control faders (or MC Pro fader unit). When you HUI Bank, the HUI Layer “moves” to the right by 16 channels (2 banks). Pro Tools channels 17-32 are now assigned to HUI Strips 1-16, and the 4 Surface Strips assigned earlier now display Pro Tools channels 21-24 (5+16=21 and 8+16=24). The Surface Mapping did not change, the HUI layer simply moved, passing on a different set of Pro Tools channels to the surface through the HUI layer.

If you have followed the steps to configure HUI as outlined in the Apllication Setup Guide, and still do not see Euphonix MIDI ports in the Setup/Peripherals dialog, following steps should ensure that the Euphonix MIDI ports are available in Pro Tools (v8.x and earlier).
1. Quit Pro Tools
2. Go to System Preferences > Euphonix and press the Stop button. This will close all EuCon related processes.
3. Open Activity Monitor. You should see a process called 'MIDIserver' - select it and press Quit Process.
4. Now open Audio MIDI Setup. (~/Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup)
5. Open or select the MIDI window or tab.
6. You should see a Euphonix MIDI Device. If the Euphonix MIDI device is grayed out (dim) it is disabled. Select it and remove it. If you do not see a Euphonix MIDI device, refer to the Application Setup Guide to configure HUI.
7. Press “rescan MIDI setup.” If the device still does not show up, restart your workstation. The Euphonix MIDI drivers
should reload on start-up.

Zones
- the command(s) added to a zone are sent while the shuttle position is in this range or "zone." The zones go from 0 at the center position to 7 as you turn to the right. and to -7 as you turn left.
- generally you will want to set a repeat rate for each zone. This means that the command(s) added to that zone will be repeatedly sent to the DAW while the shuttle is in that zone.
- generally the same command is added to each zone from 1 to 7 with the repeat rate increasing for each zone as you approach zone 7.
- generally the "inverse" command(s) are added to zones -1 to -7. This will generate the opposite effect when the shuttle is turned to the left of center.
- zone 0 is usually NULL or Stop. Usually nothing needs to be entered.
Transitions
- transitions are the points between zones.
- the commands added to the Transitions are sent only when the shuttle position crosses this point.
- Transitions are directional; going from zone 1 to zone 2 (increasing from left to right) is different from transition from zone 2 to zone 1 (decreasing from right to left)
- Transitions generally will not make use of the repeat function
For general "shuttle" behavior you may only need to program Zones. However, this may not always be the case.
For example:
In Final Cut Pro - J, K and L are used to determine play speed and direction.
Each time you press L the play speed increases; you would not want L to be repeatedly sent, only when you turn the wheel past the transition points.
As you turn back towards center, you would want J to be sent as J will adjust the speed lower until Stop is reached. The opposite would be programmed in the negative transitions.
This would create a "mock" shuttle in FCP.
Other application use arrow keys, which may me repeatedly sent at different speeds (using the repeat feature in the editor) to create a Shuttle effect. This would tend to work best with Zones as each Zone could represent a different repeat rate.

It is possible that the Logic Pro control surface preference file has become corrupt or the permissions have gone bad. This can cause track data to load incorrectly on the surface for some faders. The problem is usually intermittent and only occurs when switching to a different project.
